Yoyo G String SSE format
To preface, I am a big fan of Angel Hair and Alchemy string. I thoroughly despise cotton string, I like the feel of nylon. Despite that, I had heard so much good stuff about G string that I had to try it out. I selected the SSE format, which I figured would be more to my liking. I got a few colors, the one in the picture is LiteBrite SSE.
Initial impressions:
Holy crap, this string is bright. Really, really bright. It almost hurts to look directly at it. To say it catches the eye doesn't do it justice: it catches the eye, clumsily restrains it with duct tape and then proceeds to have its way with the eye. Excellent appearance.
Feel:
soft, soft, soft. not like cotton, but soft in a different way. it almost feels luxurious. after having spent a couple years with Angel Hair on my finger (it's great sting, but kinda rough) this was shockingly comfy. Angel Hair is the industrial grade cardboard toilet tissue of yoyo string, this is more like triple ply ultra soft charmin: a real joy to use.
Play:
Alright, here is where I was apprehensive. The string felt like a cotton string, it was way thicker than I'm used to, and to be honest, I thought it would suck. I was wrong. Flabbergasted, I proceeded to spend about an hour putting the string through its paces. It plays well! To my pleasant surprise, the thickness and softness of the string did not affect the responsiveness of the yoyo (my biggest concern) and had some decent slack and whipping ability. It didn't give me the precise feeling of whipping with Angel Hair, nor did I get that satisfying clunk at the bottom of a hard throw, more of a floaty feeling. Still, I didn't have any problems whipping or doing suicides, etc which is cool.
Summary:
looks great, feels great, plays really well. not as precise as Angel Hair, but extremely playable. I don't know that I would ever switch to it for hardcore 1A, but it's my new favorite string for 5A and just messing around.
in the pic: yoyoGstring litebrite SSE on a Cream. if you think it's bright in daylight, dig how it looks under blacklight!
