Got 35.5 inches of snow overnight !
State of Emergency has been called for my area. All the highways (including the turnpike and interstates) and shut down. Lots of people stranded in their cars along highways (some for nearly 20 hours), they called in the military to help "save" stranded people. Most people are out of power. It took me and 2 other people 4 hours today to shovel one driveway. That's how much snow there is. It went from being no snow and completely grassy yesterday to nearly 3 feet, all in one night. The local weather was only predicting around a foot last night so it was quite a surprise for everybody when they woke up. So yeah, it's pretty much chaos around here. Traffic wrecks everywhere, a charter bus collided head first with a car (no word on whether or not the guy in the car survived) literally 50 feet from my house (pic below). and another pic is below of me trying to clear out my grandmas driveway although the picture doesn't really do justice to how much snow there is... I love winter!

Yeah, that's why I live in Florida now.
In Conn, they never let me shovel my driveway with a flamethrower.

They canceled various activities in my town for today, and everyone was freaking out, stocking up on food.

I don't know the exact date but a couple of years ago, or more, I was walking to my car in the morning, it was a weather like that in the pictures but add more ice, anyway, I slipped and fall head on to the ground because my hands were in my pockets.
Dented the front driver-side door with my head on the way down. It was a really cool looking, perfect bowl shaped dent. Heh...
I always make that 'hands in pockets' mistake in snow and constantly head-butting the ground.
Thank God it's thick as a brick.
I had a point, a good one about driving, bad weather, when I first started typing this post but I can't remember what it was right now...

the issue here (in nc) is that people confuse ice and snow. we almost never get more than 6 inches of snow, on which there's really no excuse to drive poorly. i'm always amazed, however by the tendency of people (northern transplants included) to try to drive on a half-inch of ice, which we get 4 or 5 times each winter. i think those days must account for half of our single-car accidents for the year.
anyway, that looks like a lot of snow, jesse.

Actually I thought OK got a good amount of snow, granted it would be mostly blowing snow....and windy as all get out.... I thought you got more than you sound like you do...
Even so, though, if you spin out on the snow in OK, chances are good you wont hit anything...
Bahahahahahah!

Week or so ago we got 6" but at Christmas we got 14''. Most Oklahoman's don't know what to do with icy/snowy roads. I40 (main interstate through central Oklahoma) was completely covered and people were driving about 20mph. I was scaring the hell out of my wife at 60mph passing everyone.
Good times.
Oh and we still have concrete barricades to run into! lol

Well, YEAH... pass everyone, if you have the skill....We've got so many out of state transplants here whom are terrified of anything on the roads... rain included...sheesh...and they go SO slow. I blame these drivers for the majority of snow related accidents.
Bumper Car theory... if everyone is going 20 on an icy road and crash, they get all tangled up.... but if one is going 60, those going 20 will be cleared off the road quickly. Its much more effective.
Off topic, I blame cops for the majority of non snow related accidents... if theres a cop on the OTHER side of an 8 lane divided superhighway who has pulled someone over, WHY are you slamming on your brakes?!?! he's BUSY.... and even then, if you've got the balls to speed, then SPEED, dammit. you're so brave speeding until you see the cop car!
Moreover, I think all vehicles should be equipped with a sensor that will make the car turn instantaneously if you leave your @#$% blinker on for more than 1 minute.

hah. yeah, im in Texas 2 and those 5-6 inches got the schools closed.
we're kinda unprepared for snow. Tornadoes are no big deal, but when ice falls from the sky, something wrong. lol
